Hidden Gems for Berlin
Find great things to do in Berlin
Did you know that there are more kebab shops in Berlin than in Istanbul? And more museums than rainy days (actually 175)? There is so much to see and to do in Berlin that you often don’t even know what to do first – there’s always something going on! Our travel guide will help you to have a great time in Berlin.
1. Hidden Gem Berlin: Distrikt Coffee
This cafe might not be a secret tip, especially for all the people who live in Berlin (you can be sure they’ve been here), but as the pancakes are simply so delicious, it would be wrong for us not to recommend this spot for breakfast. The coffee is fantastic and the food is mouth-watering. Avocado toast, buttermilk pancakes and poached eggs will get your day started right. The pulled chicken sandwich is also perfect for a late brekkie!

2. Hidden Gem Berlin: Klunkerkranich
The rooftop garden bar in Neukölln is one the coolest hangout spots in Berlin. You have an amazing panoramic view up here! It´s on top of the Arcade Neukölln Shopping Center, and from time to time there is awesome live music. If you want so see the sunset from here, go early to grab a spot at a good place and to avoid the queue at the entrance.

3. Hidden Gem Berlin – Flea Market Boxhagener Platz:
Every Sunday, Boxhagener Platz turns into a hunting ground for treasure seekers. Here you can find a wide range of products like second hand objects, clothes and bags, graphics and paintings, or furniture and lamps. It is also a great place to find cheap, good books, as there are book-sellers who come every week. International snacks and drinks make it easy to spend the whole day at the flea market. There are also numerous cafés and restaurants nearby that are perfect for a good Sunday brunch. During the week, merchants sell veggies and fruits here which is also worth a visit.

4. Hidden Gem Berlin – Roamers:
People who have already been to Roamers will always come back, as this café is like a second living room. In all matters, this cafe gets a thumbs-up. It’s an overall mix of very good coffee, home-cooked food, nice people and the lovely interior design. It is a refreshing change to all the industrial-styled cafes in Berlin. The small, bright room is full of exotic plants, an old suitcase, a vintage travel guide to California and other travel-inspired decor. In terms of food, we definitely recommend trying one of the homemade cakes accompanied by a creamy cappuccino. But also their cold drinks are worth a try. How about an apple ginger mint lemonade? The Roamers is located at the very end of Pannierstraße in Neukölln. Roamers is not only a spot for a quick coffee, it’s also a place to hang out for a while, read a book and get some sun in front of the café.

5. Hidden Gem Berlin – House of Small Wonder:
This café is one of Berlin´s must-see breakfast spots. The House of Small Wonder originally opened in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and this branch in Berlin is the second! The menu is a bit unusual but simply amazing. It is a creative fusion of American and Japanese influences: comfort food with organic, local ingredients and freshly prepared with Japanese flavours. House of Small Wonder is popular for breakfast, lunch, and for its brunch available throughout the whole day. Some say that they have the best Matcha Latte in town – with stunning latte art! The iconic staircase at House of Small Wonder seems to be very popular on Instagram. The entranceway leads up to the warm and intimate cafe, like a little hideaway in the city. The café is well-situated in “Mitte,” close to the bustling Friedrichstraße.

If you fancy a bar with a view in Berlin, this is definitely a great choice. The Monkey Bar is located on the 10th floor of the25hours Design Hotel. It is no coincidence that the Monkey Bar is named after the monkeys in the city zoo – you can see them from the large panorama window directly on the monkey rocks of the famous Berlin Zoo. You will be blown away by the breathtaking views of the city and its terrace is the perfect place for a sundowner. The cosy interior invites you to relax and enjoy a delicious cocktail. This place is an absolute hotspot! You can find it here: Budapester Strasse 40, Charlottenburg.

Streetfood Thursday! Oh, yes! In “Markthalle Neun” there is a weekly market with veggies, fruits, eggs, and more (Fridays and Saturdays). Thursdays, however, offer up tons of food stalls in the hall. The range spans local cuisine to Vietnamese delicacies to traditional Brazilian dishes. Go there very hungry as you might want to try everything!

8. Hidden Gem Berlin: Freischwimmer
For all the travelers who love to explore the city on foot: Start at the “Prinzessinnengarten” (a little urban gardening project) and go all the way along the river Spree to Freischwimmer. You can sit here directly at the waterfront and enjoy a cold beer with a “Flammkuchen.” This is the place to be during summertime!
