The area and getting around
Located on the western coast of Italy, Sorrento is one of the prettiest in Italy. Overlooking the divine Bay of Naples and enfolded by stunning cliffs, Sorrento has a rich history which really makes it stand out from the crowd. The historic center is proudly surrounded by its ancient city walls, and within them you can experience the real Italy. Make your first visit the Piazza Tasso, lined with excellent cafes (Fauno Bar being the local’s favorite) and just let your senses absorb the beauty of Sorrento.
Life on the coastSorrento’s charming waterfront is a focal point for visitors. The attractive marina, to Sorrento’s west, features exceptional restaurants which offer a wide range of Italian cuisine as well as a fantastic selection of wines. On the right-hand side of the marina is where you’ll find the ferry to Naples. The views from the restaurants at the marina are wonderful. Look out for the top-end yachts moored here!
Travelers and activities
There can be no argument that Sorrento is one of the most picturesque towns in all of Italy, and as such it’s a perfect place for photographers be they novice or professional. Sorrento Cathedral Bell Tower, in the western part of town, is a classic Italian photograph – especially with that extraordinarily blue sky behind it. The old town is just crying out to be captured on film with its vibrant colors and pretty streets, markets, cafes and shops. But of course, the classic photograph from Sorrento is the famous shot of Vesuvius – get it from the Chiesa di San Francesco.
Sorrento for beach clubsThere’s just something really special about Sorrento’s beach clubs, and what’s more – there is no shortage of them! By the marina you’ll find four main beach clubs, each with their own special offerings. Marameo Beach offers you a private jacuzzi, floating sun beds and specialises in Italian seafood. Peter’s Beach provides an absolutely gorgeous view, and as the sun sets you can enjoy the sounds of jazz with a drink and quite exceptional food. Leonelli’s Beach Club is the best destination for families. It has a very large beach, and lots of safe space. Finally, Bagni Salvatore, without question the prettiest of them all (and that’s a tall order as they’re all delightful) has walls that are a Roman villa and divine Mediterranean dining offerings.
Limoncello is a traditional Italian liqueur made from lemons grown in the Sorrento region. The perfect addition to your pre-dinner drinks!
