Of course it is not far from such an apartment to the nearest beaches. In addition, a holiday apartment in the middle of one of the village centres on the island offers you numerous shopping possibilities and restaurants in the immediate vicinity.

If you simply want to experience peace and relaxation during your holiday, then a vacation rental in the interior of the country is highly recommended, which is often available in a secluded location. The island of Kefalonia lies at the exit of the Gulf of Patras and is part of the prefecture of Kefallinia in Greece. The most important place on the island, Argostoli, is on the southwest coast of Kefalonia. Another important city is Lixouri. The highest elevation of the predominantly mountainous island landscape is the 1,628-metre-high Berg Enos, which is a popular destination for mountain hikers.

Kefalonia has its own airport, which is served all year round via Athens. By ferry you can reach the holiday island via Zakynthos, Lefkada and Ithaka. There are also ferry connections to Patras, Killini and the Peloponnese. The airport in Athens is about 395 kilometres from Kefalonia.

The main attraction of Kefalonia is Lake Melissani, which in ancient times was a place of worship for the god Pan. The lake can be reached via a grotto, into which a lot of daylight penetrates, especially at midday. Not far from the Melissani cave you can also visit the Drogarati stalactite cave.

On Kefalonia there are several interesting exhibition houses that illustrate the history of the region. Visit the Historical Museum in Argostoli, which shows more than 800 years old exhibits from the Diakata churchyard. In Fiskardo there is a marine museum and in Davgata there is a museum dedicated to natural history.

Typical dishes on Kefalonia are the stockfish and the meat stew Pligouri. Also extremely tasty is riganada, a rusk spiced and roasted like meat. You must also try the many tomato dishes, which are prepared either as a spread on bread or in the pan breaded or fried. A popular dessert on the island is Komfeto, a soft nougat dish with almonds.

Kefalonia has many beautiful pebble beaches, of which Myrtos beach not far from Asos is worth mentioning. There are also some sandy beaches in the southwest of the island, for example near the town of Lixouri and in the southern bays between Skala and Argostoli.
