Bulgaria is located in the east of the Balkan Peninsula and borders Romania in the north. The neighbouring countries to the west are Serbia and Macedonia, to the south Turkey and Greece. Bulgaria's most important monument from days long gone is the rock relief Reiter von Madara, which was created in the 8th century. It is located not far from the village of Madara and the city of Pliska and rises a hundred meters high. This early medieval monumental relief was once the main cult site of the First Bulgarian Empire and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979.

The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, which is the landmark of the state capital, is extremely worth seeing. This impressive sacred building was completed at the beginning of the 20th century and has five naves. Inside there are many wood carvings decorated with gold, marble and mosaics. The glass paintings, domes and walls with frescoes are also impressive.

A particularly impressive hotspot of Bulgaria is Cape Kaliakra, which rises up to 70 metres from the sea. In former times this place served as a defence, which is why the Thracians already built a fortress here. Today you can still visit the remains of the fortress wall and enjoy the wonderful view of the sunset.
