Hidden Gems for Elba
Find great things to do in Elba
Italy’s third-largest island has exceptionally clear water, fine white-sand beaches, a fine seafaring cuisine, lovely island wines, and landscape just made for hiking and biking. In our travel guide you will find great things to do in Elba.
1. Hidden Gem Elba: Gelateria La Svolta
This little juwel is definitely a ice cream heaven! People love the traditional and the modern flavors because of their smooth texture and the pieces of fruits and nuts the ice cream contains. You simply taste that the Gelateria only uses high quality ingredients. They also have VERY special ice cream flavors like one with chili pepper. La Svolta is located in Marciana Marina.

2. Hidden Gem Elba: Agriturismo Agricola Montefabbrello
This rustic restaurant offers taste and healthiness using local vegetables and meats to create traditional, simple and wonderful dishes. The Montefabbrello farm grows its own wheat to make pasta, grapes to make wine and olives to produce oil. The fruit and veggies are of course also homegrown. The restaurant is surrounded by green olive trees and vineyards, so a wonderful atmosphere to enjoy lunch or dinner.

3. Hidden Gem Elba: Mount Capanne
The top of Mount Capanne is worth a visit for its beautiful panorama opening to 360°over the whole Elba and the Tuscan Archipelago. Try to reach the top during a clear day, preferably starting early in the morning when the visibility is good. To reach the top of Mount Capanne, you can do it by foot along a path that crosses a thick forest of chestnut trees, in about three hours walk. Else you can take the gondola which is to be found between the villages of Poggio and Marciana.

4. Hidden Gem Elba: Spiaggia Padulella
Spiaggia della Padulella is right around the corner from Spiaggia Capo Bianco and is one of the most popular beaches. This beautiful beach with mostly white rocks (but also some patches with sand) has a wonderful panorama. The nicest thing about this beach are the varying colors in the water and the really nice view of the fort across the water in Portoferraio. Since 1971 it has been a marine reserve area, so the sea is rich in fauna and therefore suitable for snorkeling.

5. Hidden Gem Elba: Terra e Cuore
If you want to go on a hiking trip, then hike up to Fattorie Cuore D’Elba, an organic farm set in an uncontaminated landscape context. They mainly focus on goat products like different kinds of cheese, and they even create delicious ice cream out of it. Terra & Cuore uses not only the “know-how” of the farms, but also the raw materials: organic goat milk, aromatic herbs harvested in the countryside and fresh seasonal fruit. If possible, stay until the sunset, as the view gets breathtaking during the golden hour.

6. Hidden Gem Elba: Tonnina
This hidden gem is an absolute MUST recommendation. La Tonnina (bar and café) is located right at the marina in Portoferraio, on the south side of Elba. When you come for breakfast, a good cup of coffee, delicious croissant and a bowl of yummy cereal with lots of fresh fruit will await you. But we would even tend to rather come in the evening for an aperitivo. They offer an amazing selection of gin and cocktails accompanied by some snacks like olives, nuts and crisps. The atmosphere here right at the promenade invites for a memorable night.

7. Hidden Gem Elba: Paglicce Beach
If you fancy a day at the beach with a little bit of luxury, check out Paglicce Beach. The big sunbeds with cozy cushions are perfect for hanging around all day long. The restaurant is located directly on the beautiful beach of Marina di Campo in the middle of the gulf. The access is through a beautiful pine forest. Whether you come for breakfast, lunch or dinner or even just for a delicious cocktail, Paglicce Beach is a good spot to go to.

8. Hidden Gem Elba: Tenuta La Chiusa
Up for a wine tasting? Tenuta La Chiusa is located on a private estate of 20 hectares on the Gulf of Portoferraio, a few meters from the beach.
Since the end of the 1500s the vineyards of the estate have spread over the Magazzini plain with an east-west exposure. Currently there are 11 hectares planted with vineyards, the grapes are mainly native to the Island of Elba. Tenuta la chiusa is not only specialized in wine but also in olive oil, so there are about 3 hectares dedicated to this cultivation on the farm.
During the spring and summer season the estate is open to the public from Monday to Saturday. During the afternoons you have the chance to test their products, especially the wine. They also offer guided tours for groups, during which you can discover the history of the Estate and taste the main products of the Tenuta La Chiusa.
