Vacation rentals in Interlaken
The Interlaken holiday region couldn't be more beautifully situated: on one side the Lake of Thun, on the other the Lake of Brienz and right through it flows the Aare, making Interlaken one of the most beautifully situated towns in the Bernese Oberland. No wonder you'll find the whole range of accommodation on Holidu: from a luxurious vacation rental to a beautiful lakeside apartment or a small apartment for those who want to spend most of their time travelling anyway.
Holiday in Interlaken
Location and orientation
The small village of Interlaken lies on an alluvial plain, a so-called Bödeli, which once formed between the two lakes in ancient times. It is framed by the mountain triumvirate of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau and is probably the epitome of the beauty of Central Switzerland. Bern with its international airport is located just 55 kilometres to the north-west, Lucerne just 70 kilometres to the north-east.
At the beginning of September, the "Jungfrau Marathon" with more than 4,000 athletes will start in Interlaken, the most famous mountain marathon in the world.
Top 3 travel tips
In summer, almost everything in Interlaken revolves around the cool and refreshing water. No wonder, because with two great lakes right in front of your vacation rental door! Both Lake Thun and Lake Brienz offer a wide range of leisure activities on, on and in the water. But of course this is not enough! In the natural beach Burgseeli in the neighbouring village Ringgenberg you can take a ride on fast slides or throw yourself artistically from the diving towers. One thing is for sure: everyone will find the right cooling here!
2. An excursion to the alpHave you always wanted to know what a normal day on the alp looks like? How about a guided hike to the Tschingelfeld cow, goat and sheep pasture? You will not only walk through the most beautiful landscape, you will also learn all kinds of interesting things about the keeping and breeding of the animals and the daily routines. As a reward there is of course a "Aelplerzmittag" with a hearty snack at the end of your hike before you return to the valley.
3. A visit to the St. Beatus CavesHigh above Lake Thun, the St. Beatus Caves take you into an underground world of myths and legends. After all, here in the 6th century St. Beatus is said to have driven a dragon out of the cave! But the cave is also worth a visit without any myths, because it leads you over dizzying abysses, past thundering waterfalls and impressive halls - all of course illuminated in an atmospheric way. And after the guided tour through the caves, the little ones can really let off steam on the playground with dragon slide.
