In the very south of Sweden lies the province of Skåne. Since 1997, when the areas of Malmöhust and Kristianstads Iän were combined to form Skåne Province, the region has been divided into 33 municipalities. It used to be the home of the Vikings. The stones arranged in a targeted manner form the shape of a ship. The complex was probably built around 600 AD. Whether Ales Steinen is a tomb or a solar calendar has not been completely clarified until today.

Midsummer is the longest day of the year in Sweden. The festival originated from the solstice celebrations. Similar to the German maypole, one sets up a midsummer pole at Midsommar. This is decorated with the green of a birch tree.
