Location and orientation
Panama is the country of many connections: the bridge between Latin and Central America, gateway from the Pacific to the Caribbean. With wild jungles, fertile heights and almost 2,000 kilometers of coastline, Panama is one of the most prosperous countries in South America. This is of course due to the largest structure, the Panama Canal, which leads from the Pacific side of Panama City in a northerly direction to the Caribbean. Today it is one of the most important waterways in the world.
Panama means dance and joie de vivre. For example, the world-famous salsa musician Ruben Blades was Panama's tourism minister for years.
Top 3 travel tips
Panama City is probably the first place to go when you visit Panama. Marvel at the financial centre with its skyscrapers stretching out to the sky before the water or stroll through the old town of Casco Viejo. With its well-preserved colonial houses, exciting little craft boutiques and music in every corner, it is the nightlife district of Panama City.
2nd Caribbean feeling in Bocas del ToroAbout 600 kilometres further north from Panama City lies the archipelago of Bocas del Toro with its blossom-white beaches and peacock blue waters. On the Isla Colon you can expect gorgeous accommodations from the apartment to the holiday home, where hardly a wish remains unfulfilled. If you want a little less hustle and bustle, Isla Bastimentos lures you with rainforests in the hilly inland. Bocas del Toro is currently one of the hottest destinations in the Caribbean.
3. The Panama CanalWhat would a visit to Panama be without marveling at its greatest attraction, the Panama Canal? The approximately 82 kilometre long canal begins in a suburb of Panama City, Balboa and meets the Atlantic coast at Colon. For many vacationers, an extensive view of this masterpiece of architecture from one of the viewing platforms in Panama City is enough - but you can of course also take a mini-cruise through the canal. The journey takes about 15 hours and offers unique views of Panama.
