Eiderstedt is a peninsula on the North Sea coast of Schleswig-Holstein and belongs to the district of Nordfriesland. It was built around 1200 A.D. by dykes to gain land. Eiderstedt is 30 kilometres long and 15 kilometres wide and originally consisted of two islands and a peninsula. Eiderstedt is known for its green expanse, meadows and tranquillity. In addition to the memorable and impressive nature, which is marked by the North Sea climate, there are also 18 historic churches and about 70 of the former 400 barges, which characterize the area. This special architecture was introduced to Eiderstedt by the Dutch from the 15th to the 17th century and the most famous "Haubarg" in the region is the "Rote Haubarg", which was converted into a restaurant.
