At that time, the Varna culture was already so technically advanced that it could extract and process gold. For this reason it was named after where it was found.

The cultural life in Varna offers you an attractive entertainment programme all year round consisting of drama, film, ballet, jazz and classical music. However, the city is particularly known for the Biennale of Graphics, which has been held in Varna since 1981.
