With so many smells, tastes, sounds and sights of the traditional Thai culture, this metropolis can get quite overwhelming at your first visit . But Bangkok will never get boring. Stroll around, explore the temples and food markets and get a relaxing massage. In our travel guide you will find great things to do in Bangkok.

1. Hidden Gem Bangkok: The Never Ending Summer

If you fancy a great, air-conditioned restaurant after testing tons of food markets in Bangkok, this is a lovely place to go for delicious food. It is located in a repurposed industrial warehouse. The interior features concrete walls, aged red brick, vintage lamps, teak wood furniture and hanging plants. The dishes are inspired by traditional Thai cuisine but also have a slight European touch. Even traditional and simple dishes like the cashew chicken taste like heaven. The easiest way to get here is to take a taxi to “the jam factory”. You can also find a bookstore, a café and an art gallery here.

2. Hidden Gem Bangkok: Maeklong Railway Market

Even if you have been to several markets in Bangkok, this one will surely stand out: a train runs through the center of it several times a day! Right down the middle and close enough to touch. The stalls have displays of fruits, veggies, meats, seafood, as well as sweet snacks, clothing, and flowers. This amazing experience is really worth a trip. The Maeklong Railway Market is about an hour southwest of Bangkok city, and you can get there either by taxi or train.

3. Hidden Gem Bangkok: Metro Forest

In the district of Prawet, this urban oasis is located approximately 6 kilometers from the international airport on the eastern fringes of Bangkok. Visitors can observe over 250 native plant species from a sky walk. The ecological project was established to raise awareness for the importance of urban forests in Bangkok. It is the ideal place to escape from the rush of the city center and to go for a walk in stunning nature.

4. Hidden Gem Bangkok: Hookrajong Café

This spot is not located in the city center, but if you have a longer stay in Bangkok and want to explore beyond just the typical tourist spots, then come here! Located in the Yannawa district, the Hookrajong Café is a small, special cafe which is housed in a stylish glass building. The name of the café comes from the trees in the garden but, as it is quite hot outside, most people prefer to enjoy their cake and drinks inside. Make sure to order their matcha specials! They are famous for their “Spring Coffee” which is frozen matcha in leaf-shaped ice with warm milk and hot coffee.
