The impressive beaches of the Costa Brava are of unrivalled beauty. Enjoy a day at the secluded and sheltered coves of Begur, Calella, Palamós, Platja d’Aro, Tamariu or Castell. Further up, following the coastline, the scenery changes, the beaches are more pebbly and the rugged cliffs plunge into the deep waters of the sea. Roses, Empúries, L’Escala and Cap de Creus are dotted with lovely little coves and beaches to spend a laid-back day basking in the sun, enjoying a lovely meal by the beach and go for an ice cream as you stroll along the promenade.

The Alt Empordà, the northern part of the Costa Brava, would not be understood without Salvador Dalí. The Theatre-Museum of Figueras, where his remains lie, his summer house in Port Lligat and the castle of Púbol, where Gala is buried, make up the Dalinian Triangle. This is hands down the best route to understand the genius of surrealism.

The Costa Brava offers countless incredible places to go diving, but one of the best is the Illes Medes, listed as a National Protected Natural Park, where you can enter mysterious underwater caves and dive among sunken ships. Admire the underwater spices including barracudas, groupers and lots of starfish. But if diving is not your thing, you can also take a glass bottom boat tour from l’Estartit.

The Natural Park of Cap de Creus offers a unique landscape with sheer cliffs, rocky crops and a wild scenery. Hike up the popular trail from Cadaqués to the lighthouse of Cap de Creus, passing through Port Lligat and some of the most beautiful coves of the Costa Brava. This is a 10-mile round trip that takes between 5 and 6 hours or maybe a bit more if the beauty of the surroundings captivate you and make you stop to take the best pictures ever. A must-do in the Costa Brava is to explore the incredible coastline strolling along the popular “Camins de Ronda” (Coastal walks). This trail connects all the different coastal and fishing villages as you cross secluded coves, blistering cliffs, sandy beaches and old lighthouses. According to your fitness level, you can either choose a short 18K route from Palamós to Tamariu, a lineal 43K route from Sant Feliu de Guíxols to Begur or a circular 140K route starting in the iconic cathedral of Girona, the capital of the county, heading to Llagostera, the coastal villages of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Palamós, Llafranc, Begur, the inland La Bisbal d’Empordà, the massif of Les Gavarres and Els Àngels and returning to Girona. You will never get tired of the views!

From its almost one third of protected territory we can highlight this park with great ecological interest in its marsh areas, as well as the plant and animal species that live there. A good option is to base your stay in the nearby town of Roses and the beach of Can Comes. Enjoy a day surrounded by nature gems and breathe in the fresh air of the Aiguamolls.

The Mediterranean cuisine is balanced and it offers quality fresh produce brought to the table in the most varied ways. Try some arròs caldós and a shellfish platter at El Roser Restaurant in L’Escala.
