Up to 4 people. Panizza hat factory:In 1881, Giovanni Panizza built a hat factory on the site of today's Yachting Residence, which quickly gained a great reputation and whose name became associated with sporty and elegant hats.
The main hats produced here were the so-called "Bon Voyage" hats, which were characterised by their extremely light felt.
Here on Lake Maggiore, the company founder found the best conditions for the production of hats, as water was one of the most important factors in the production cycle and there were also many specialised skilled workers in the area.
In 1981, the Panizza company ceased production and the listed building was sold on the condition that the exterior be preserved and a small part converted into a museum when it was converted into a holiday residence.
In 1994, the "museo dell'arte del cappello" was opened, offering visitors a unique opportunity to gain an extremely interesting insight into the history of hat making. felt:Felt is the oldest form of cloth in existence.
It was already known to the tribes of the Mongolian steppe long before the Romans and Greeks discovered it for themselves.
Felt is actually a "non-woven" fabric, as it is made from wool or animal hair, and the fibres are interwoven with pressure by mechanical and chemical processes using heat and moisture.
According to legend, it was the apostle Giacomo who invented felt by chance.
As he travelled the world proclaiming the word of God, he was looking for a way to relieve the great pain in his feet.
To this end, he collected tufts of wool that the sheep left behind on the bushes and placed them between his feet and his sandals.
After a while, he realised that the pressure, moisture and sweat had caused the material to harden and take on the shape of a sole.
Situated at the southern end of Ghiffa, the approx. 60 m² 2-room flat "La Fabbrichetta: Leonardlake" is located on the 2nd and thus top floor of a 10-family house.
The typical stone house dates back to the 1880s and used to be one of the production facilities of the Panizza hat factory, whose headquarters were located on the northern outskirts of Ghiffa.
From the tastefully, partly modernly furnished flat, you can enjoy a fantastic view of the lake and the mountains opposite from both the inside and outside areas.
The private, covered balcony is the ideal place for daydreaming, reading and simply "doing nothing".
If you don't want to miss out on contact with the rest of the world during your holiday, free WLAN internet access is available.
You can reach the house entrance via five steps from the street, on the opposite side of which you will also find the private car park belonging to the flat, approx. 30 metres away.
Please don't let the street disturb your holiday peace in any way - all rooms face the lake.
For the swimming enthusiasts among you, there is a lake access right next to the building, for a longer stay by the water there is a public beach about 200 metres away.
The renowned town of Intra with its lakeside promenade, alleyways, squares and car ferry can be reached in approx. 5 minutes by car.
Here you will also find shops, bars, restaurants and numerous shopping facilities - everything you need for a successful holiday.
Numerous hiking trails also give you the opportunity to explore the beautiful landscape on foot.
