This house is in the little village Baltini, just 12km from the larger locality Ilukstes Novads, in the south-east of Latvia. It is in the “Dvietas Paliene” nature reserve that was founded in 2004 on a site of nearly 5000 hectares.

The house is on a two-hectare site with many trees and a pond (fishing is possible free of charge). There is an annex with a steam sauna (not included in the rental price).

The house was restored so that its typical character was preserved. It consists of two floors, each of almost 100m², and can accommodate up to four people. The ground floor has a kitchen with a gas stove, coffee machine, fridge and mini oven. Next to it there is the living and dining room, furnished in a 19th-century style, with a fireplace and period furniture. The house also has a large room with a rustic kitchen (fireplace with firewood), which can also be used to heat the house. You can dine in the glazed dining space. There is also a bathroom, with an accomplished combination of rustic and modern elements. Wooden stairs lead to the upper floor with two bedrooms each with a double bed (200 x 200cm). These also have rustic-modern furnishing. Between them there is a little lounge. The house can be heated either with the fireplace stove or with electric radiators.

There are many lakes nearby and you can walk to the Daugava River. The surrounding forests are ideal for walking, gathering mushrooms, fishing or photographing. The town Daugavpils is 30km away, the second most important town in Latvia.

The house has neither a telephone, nor a TV or other modern means of communication. Guests should be able to switch off completely and live in harmony with nature.
