Travelers and Activities

A paradise for plant explorers

Take advantage of the idyllic location of your holiday apartment on Gozo to explore the unique flora of the island while hiking. Gozo is also known as the green island because the fertile and humid soil favours plant growth. Among the special plant species are various species of Wood Sorrel, which otherwise grow only in South Africa, and the Opuntia, which the English once brought to Gozo.

One of the most popular diving regions in the Mediterranean Sea

Gozo has a magnificent underwater landscape with caves and old shipwrecks. The clear visibility is unique to this region, which is why divers enjoy exploring it. The best known dive sites are Inland Sea, Xwejni Bay, Reqqa Point, Double Arch, Blue Hole, Azure Window and Billinghurst Cave.

According to legend, Odysseus lived for seven years with the nymph Kalypso in the Calypso Cave, located on the north coast of Gozo, east of Marsalforn.

Top travel tips

1. Exploring the beauty of the landscape in the west

The best attractions on Gozo can be found in the western part of the island called Dwejra. These include Fungus Rock, home to Maltese sponges, and Inland Lake, which is fed with salt water from the sea through a tunnel. You can also visit the Kercem aqueduct in Dwejra.

2. Walk to the only lighthouse

The Giordan Lighthouse, visible from a distance, is located on a mountain 150 metres above sea level. From the lighthouse you can hike north to the coast to admire the naturally formed rock gate Wied il-Mielah Window.

3. Prehistoric temples

The detached Ggantija Temple is one of the oldest preserved architectural ensembles in the world. Listed on UNESCO's World Heritage List since 1980, the complex consists of two temples with strikingly high walls that give an idea of the building's impressive former architecture.
